Imo State Police Command confirmed that three security officers were killed on Saturday when unknown gunmen attacked the home of the Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma.
State police spokesman Orlando Ikeokwu in Imo State said that the victims were a police sergeants and two members of the Nigerian Civil Defense and Security Corps.
Ikeokwu explained that while gunmen killed an NSCDC agent in the governor’s compound, the attackers killed other NSCDC members and a police sergeant as they fled the compound.
He said a police sergeant and NSCDC staff were killed by the gunmen when fleeing at the Mgbidi-Oguta junction.
Ikeokwu also said two cars parked at the governor’s complex in Omuma, in the Oru East local government Area were set on fire in the attack.
A police spokesman revealed that the attackers threw petrol bombs at the governor’s home.
Ikeokwu said, “I can confirm the attack on the governor’s hometown. The gunmen attacked the governor’s home by throwing petrol bombs, as a result of which two cars were set on fire but were successfully repulsed, and no building was set on fire.
“However, an unarmed member of the NSCDC staff was killed in the process. The gunmen men, while fleeing, also killed a police sergeant and other NSCDC members in their private vehicles at the Mgbidi junction. ”
